Who We Are The Digital Health Technologies (DHT) group at Roche/Genentech is part of the Personalized Healthcare (PHC) Center of Excellence focusing on developing the next generation digital health platforms, tools and products for the future of medicine. Digital health promises to revolutionize how we diagnose disease, understand a patient’s disease course and response to treatment with unprecedented precision, and predict what treatment strategies are likely to be optimal. We are building a clinically validated, highly scalable and secure software platform that meets regulatory, quality, and privacy requirements. Our platform and services support Software as Medical Device (SaMDs), connected medical devices, and combination Products. DHT partners across the company with other Digital Health groups to advance digital health solutions which include hardware, software, applications, tools, and platforms to enable development of our therapies as well as more personalized care of patients across a range of therapeutic areas. Our primary focus is on the validation, scaling, and productization of digital health platforms, tools, and products; inclusive of late-stage development of novel digital biomarkers and endpoints, as well as the design, conduct, and analysis of analytical validation, clinical validation, and clinical utility studies to meet stakeholder needs and regulatory requirements, as appropriate. The PHC Center of Excellence is focused on translating the promise of meaningful data at scale, advanced analytics, and digital technologies for drug development, and personalized patient care. The Position The Compliance and Strategy (CS) group within DHT leads the team’s data protection and digital privacy strategy covering the digital health platform and Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) applications, and the range of research, clinical and patient implementations that are anticipated to be productized. You’ll play a key role in helping to shape the privacy protections and features that are built into the digital health platform. Products built upon the platform will have a customer focus, scaling from prototypes to commercial in-market deployment; making effective use of generated data is a high priority, facilitating deeper insights and ongoing product improvements. Enabling these outcomes in line with data protection regulations on a global scale is a key responsibility of the Data Protection and Digital Privacy Leader. We also closely collaborate within Roche with our other groups including: clinical development , other digital health groups, functions and subject matter experts within the Personalized Healthcare area and the Research and Early Development organizations (gRED, pRED & PD), Quality Assurance, Roche Diagnostics, Pharma Partnering, Informatics and privacy, cybersecurity & technology functions, in order to define and execute the strategic direction of Digital Health to transform drug development and patient care. We partner externally with patient groups and health care providers, technology companies, regulatory, policy makers and others. The Data Protection & Digital Privacy role will lead strategic privacy objectives for the digital health ecosystem. DHT creates digital products that are used in research, clinical environments, and by patients; this requires a tailored data protection and privacy approach to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and transparency to individuals. This individual will be responsible for representing privacy as part of the product lifecycle and maintaining compliance on an ongoing basis. Responsibilities Data Protection & Privacy Leadership Work collectively across stakeholders in Genentech and Roche to contribute to a framework for our data protection & privacy approach for digital technologies in line with data use objectives and organizational strategy Act as the subject matter expert for privacy laws and regulations (such as HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and work in a cross-functional manner to ensure that technical and organizational requirements are implemented for DHT processes and products Actively partner with global and local privacy teams as a member of the Roche Data Privacy Network to assure coordination of efforts, to share knowledge, and to share best practices relating to data protection and privacy Build trust with external stakeholders, including potential customers, partners, regulators and auditors regarding the privacy and data protection aspects of solutions developed by DHT Monitor the industry landscape to keep visibility on evolutions, trends, and best practices related to data protection and privacy. Privacy Program Management Establish a data protection & privacy framework for solutions developed by DHT which incorporates ‘privacy by design’ into the product lifecycle Liaise with the Global Privacy Organization to assist in the intake, tracking, and resolution of internal and external privacy requests Participate in a cross-functional incident response team as the key privacy representative to assist with investigation, notification and timely resolution of privacy related incidents Document and maintain records of data processing activities and other privacy related documentation for solutions developed by DHT Understand and distinguish data processing strategies associated with research and products that make use of differently-sourced data, including: patient-derived data, patient-reported outcomes, patient support services, and digital health information Coordinate with legal teams for completion of relevant data protection and privacy agreements (DPA, BAA), commercial contracts and partnerships Develop and execute a training and awareness program to educate cross-functional stakeholders on a global scale about DHT’s privacy and data protection principles Technical Oversight Develop a strategy to implement ‘Privacy by Design’ in DHT’s products; build out replicable processes and templates to facilitate the development and launch of new digital products, at scale Work closely with product and technical teams to perform data mapping exercises to ensure that data processing activities are aligned to applicable laws and regulations Assist in reviewing and negotiating data sharing agreements such as Business A...
